We hope you got through the winter unscathed - the animals at Mount Gnomon are certainly pleased it's over. The piglets weren't too keen on the snow! But now the grass is growing again, the wattle is flowering, and I'm madly digging the vegetable garden.
The farm restaurant is open again! We had a couple of months off while the weather was particularly bad (I actually escaped to South-east Asia for a while), but we're in full-swing again now. We have a French chef called Jeremy with us for the season. He's a qualified pastry chef and works in Michelin-star joints. His last gig was at Om Nom dessert bar in Flinders Lane, Melbourne. He's here getting some experience at the source, and wowing us every day with his creations.
The menu changes each week, as different parts of our animals become available and as more vegetables are ready to harvest. This week, for example, we'll be able to share with you some of our very limited Shropshire lamb… and our Wessex pork, of course.
We're open weekends for lunch, but we're also inviting you to book private functions with us during the week and in the evenings. Have you got a venue for your Christmas work-do? Or do you want to book the restaurant out for a family catch up and let the kids run around with the lambs and piglets while you enjoy a Tassie wine or beer?
We're proposing either a two or three course meal for your event, featuring our glazed ham, pork and beef dishes, a couple of Jeremy's incredible desserts, and if you're taking the three-course option, a platter of local cheeses and our house-made charcuterie.
How does that sound? If you're interested, please give me a call (Eliza 0499 698 999) or send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org). We'll talk menus, prices, and farm tours. I think the days will book up pretty quickly, so don't spend too long thinking about it!
We're actually hosting our first wedding on the farm in October. It was always a bit of a crazy dream to entice a bride into a pig paddock for her wedding photos, but now it's going to happen! The couple will make their vows in the front paddock looking out at the Dial Range, and then sit down for three courses in the restaurant. We're excited - and maybe just a bit nervous!
As usual we continue to visit the farmers' market Harvest Launceston on Saturday mornings, Farm Gate Hobart on Sundays every couple of weeks, and the Cradle Coast Farmers' Market as much as we can. I'm sure you can understand the juggling we're doing with markets now that the restaurant is open again. It's best to check our Facebook page to confirm which markets we're coming to on the weekend.
I look forward to taking your bookings for the weekend restaurant and functions. It's lovely being able to host you in our front paddock and share this beautiful farm with you.
Eliza (and Guy, who's in Eastern Europe for a few weeks munching on sausages and other tasty things)
P.S. Please note the restaurant will be closed on Saturday October 10 for a wedding.
P.P.S. Do you follow us on Instagram @mountgnomonfarm? I've been putting up lots of photos of Jeremy's dishes and the farm's spring babies :)
